Hunter's Honey Farm Overview
Hunter's Honey Farm is a family owned and operated farm. We are a fourth generation of beekeepers who have been producing honey and honey related products in Indiana for over 100 years.
Gilbert Perigo was born in 1890 and caught his first swarm while he was in high school in Boonville, Indiana.  By 1910, he was managing several hives to pollinate his father's apple orchard.  He eventually built his apiary to 800 hives while at the same time teaching school.  In 1951, he retired from teaching to take on the position of Chief Apiary Inspector for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and moved his apiary and family to Mooresville, Indiana.  He and his wife Elizabeth raised 5 girls of whom Marian was the eldest.  Marian married Max Hunter (an engineer for the Indiana Highway Department) and began teaching elementary school in Mooresville. Marian eventually began her own apiary of approximately 12 hives.  Marian and Max had three children of whom Tracy was the youngest.  Tracy grew up helping his grandfather (Gilbert) harvest and extract the honey to be sold in local stores, orchards and from their front porch.  In June of 1975, as a sophomore in high school, Gilbert helped Tracy hive his first swarm in downtown Mooresville.  After graduating from Purdue University, Tracy married Christina Ramsay and together they continued adding to the apiary reaching 500 hives in 1998.  In the Spring of 2004, Tracy helped 10 yr old Ross hive his first swarm in Martinsville, Indiana.  For the last two years, Ross has been our number one queen grafter.

Today, the Hunter family, along with Lanny, Kara, Gary and Donna, manages several hundred hives throughout the state to pollinate apples, melons, strawberries, pumpkins, and other similar crops.
We try to keep our honey as pure and natural as possible. Therefore, our honey is never flash heated or pressure filtered insuring that our customers get the finest and most flavorful honey that nature has to offer.
Even though honey is our main product, we also produce beeswax, bee pollen, and propolis. We use them to make beeswax candles, beeswax soap, beeswax moisturizing cream, beeswax lip balm, honey teriyaki sauce, honey barbecue sauce, honey mustard sauce, honey vinaigrette, honey hot wing sauce, honey chocolate sauce, honey caramel corn, honey dried apple slices, spun honey, honey pecans, honey mustard pretzels, honey baklava and many other honey treats. We also have 32 different flavored honey stix and 6 varieties of honey candy.

Our farm also manages 65 acres of hardwood timber and 4,000 Christmas trees.

In addition to working with bees, Tracy is a high school science teacher. Christina is a middle school family and consumer science teacher. Ross is studying engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Mackenzie has straight A's in middle school. We sell honey wholesale as well as retail. We invite you to visit our gift shop which is open daily and is filled with many products that we produce at our farm. Tours of the farm, which include honey tasting, beekeeping discussion, candle making, honey extracting (seasonal), and honey bottling can be scheduled upon request. For more information call or email us, and don't forget to sign up for a honey farm tour.
